Getting away with friends at the Cape of Rodon.

Cape of Rodon is about an hour drive from Tirana and north of Durrës. Before the small hike out to the point, you’ll find St. Anthony’s Church from 1599. Some say it is St. Mary’s Monastery built by Skanderbeg’s sister for the nuns of St. Chiara. On the Cape is the Rodoni Castle, built by Skanderbeg in 1463. Gjergj Kastrioti, known as Skanderbeg, was an Albanian who led a rebellion against the Ottoman Empire in what is today Albania, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia. This castle, on the Adriatic, provided a quick escape point if the Ottomans invaded.
